Mississippi John Hurt
Hurt (1893-1966) was a Southern African American blues singer & guitarist.
Hurt was a sharecropper & taught himself to play the guitar at the age of 9. He was "discovered" & brought to Washington to be recorded at the Library of Congress. He 1st played at the Newport Folk Festival in the same year.
