Tharpe (1915-73) was an enormously influential Black gospel singer songwriter. She had a unique style of accompanying her lyrics on electric guitar that has been cited an influential by many early rock n' roll musicians such as Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry & Elvis Presley - as well as British musicians such as Keith Richards and Eric Clapton.
